Friday MashUp Fan Favorite Entry

I am a newbie to the Friday MashUp Blog. But it has risen near the top of my list of favorite challenge blogs! They are accepting "mashup" ideas from fans and will feature one as an upcoming challenge.

I'm itching for fall to officially arrive. But recent weather has hinted of it, and football has begun! So, that led me to my idea... (though I'm really not even a sports fan, go figure)!

My Mashup Challenge, would be to:
1. Create a " Sports-Themed" project.
2. Create a project using " the colors of your favorite team (pro, college, high school, little league...)".
3. Or "Mash it Up!" and create a " sports-themed" project that uses "the colors of your favorite team"!
** if you don't have any favorite team, google NFL team flags and pick a color combo that strikes you!

I made two cards - both football since that is on my mind. This first one is in honor of our nephew who is a senior this year and captain of his football team the Wildcats. Their team colors are orange and black. We, the whole family, are rooting for him and hoping he has a fantastic, fun, injury-free season! :)

Supplies:
Stamp Sets: Just Football, Fall Flair
Ink: Pumpkin Pie, Soft Suede, Basic Black, VersaMark
Paper: Pumpkin Pie, Basic Black, Whisper White, Going Gray? (retired SU! color), Confetti White
Tools: Black EP, heat tool, distressor tool
Embellishments: Designer Buttons Brights Pumpkin Pie

----------
I also made one for the most revered team in this household: Penn State. :)

Supplies:
Stamp Sets: Just Football, Sporting
Ink: Soft Suede, Night of Navy, VersaMark
Paper: Garden Green, Whisper White, Night of Navy
Tools: Tearing Edge, White EP, heat tool

August 25, 2011

This post contains 2 cards for 2 different challenges!

First up for the Paper Players sketch:

Supplies:
Stamp Sets: Butterfly Prints, Curly Cute
Ink: Melon Mambo, Tangerine Tango, Tempting Turquoise, VersaMark
Paper: Tempting Turquoise, Early Espresso, Ice Cream Parlor DSP, Whisper White, Melon Mambo
Tools: Big Shot, Flower Garden EF, Butterfly Punch, Modern Label punch, White EP, heat tool
Embellishment: 3/8" Early Espresso Taffeta ribbon (I put a small piece of tape on the back side of the ribbon right under where the turquoise butterfly lays. Then I looped up the end of the ribbon and stuck it to the back of itself with sticky strip, letting it hang free/loose under the label. Hence, it is actually crooked in the picture which I didn't notice until just now!)

And for the Saturday Sketch Challenge (for which I missed the deadline by 5 hours) at Stamping411:

Supplies:
Stamp Sets: Of the Earth, Fresh Cuts
Ink: Basic Gray, Bravo Burgundy
Paper: Baja Breeze, Bravo Burgundy, Very Vanilla
Tools: Big Shot, Elegant Lines EF, 1 1/4 Square punch, Modern Label Punch
Embellishments: Seam Binding Baja Breeze, Victoria Crochet Trim

Bring on the Cake 1

Hello! I am sharing with you a set of cards I made using, primarily, the set Bring on the Cake. I used all but the stamp with "a gift for you" - the ones you don't see pictured I used on the inside of the cards. But I also ever used the same stamp twice for this set. I made feminine, masculine, and teen-appropriate cards. I used only one other stamp set, and only because I did not have appropriate DSP (in effect, I made my own!). I want to show how much variety you can get using some of the same things. In addition to limiting my stamp set use, I also limited my color use. You'll see a lot of Whisper White, Crumb Cake, Marina Mist and Wild Wasabi. Mainly I used Regals, Subtles and a few In Colors. Also, you will see repeated use of the Stipes Embossing Folder, the Ovals die, the Extra Large Oval punch and Basic Rhinestones.

Below is one card, in the post below are the other five cards.

Here I used Fabulous Florets to create the illusion of DSP. This fold was taught to me by my upline. 1 inch in from each side, starting 1 inch from the top cut down 5.5 inches (meaning your blade will start at 1 in and end at 6.5 in). The score just on those 1 inch sides - at 1 in, 2 in, and at 6.5 in; then score the middle section at 5.5 in.
Wisteria Wonder, Whisper White, Wild Wasabi, Elegant Eggplant
Extra Large Oval punch, Ovals die, Basic Rhinestones, Designer Buttons Regals Elegant Eggplant, 1/8" Whisper White Taffeta ribbon

Bring on the Cake 2

The other five cards are rather straightforward.

Marina Mist, Cherry Cobbler, Confetti White, Elegant Eggplant, Lucky Limeade
Paper Piercer, Big Shot, Top Note die, Butterfly punch, Basic Rhinestones

Please refer to the post below this one for this card, as the color scheme came from a ColorQ challenge.

Marina Mist, Cajun Craze, Wild Wasabi; Black StazOn
Big Shot, Stripes EF, Square Lattice EF, Hemp Twine, Corner Rounder punch, Silver Brads

The flames are actually leaves from Little Leaves Sizzlit, snipped off and trimmed a bit. I thought the varying sizes seemed more realistic.
Crumb Cake, Marina Mist, Daffodil Delight, Whisper White, Early Espresso
Baker's Twine Early Espresso, Designer Buttons Regals Night of Navy, Big Shot, Stripes EF, Ovals die, Log Cabin Smooch Spritz, sponging

Rose Red, Blushing Bride, Crumb Cake, Whisper White (although Very Vanilla would match the ribbon better)
Blossom Bouquet Triple Layer punch, 1 3/4" Circle punch, Large Scallop Circle punch, Big Shot, Stripes EF, Glimmer Brad Neutrals, 1 1/4" Striped Grosgrain Soft Suede, Dazzling Details

----------
I hope this inspires you to pick up a stamp set and find out just how versatile it can be! For my customers, I am planning to to a "Birthday Bonanza" class this fall. I'll charge a flat fee, have the supplies ready for you and you can come make these 6 cards!

August 4, 2011

A few of the challenge sites I've been following have seemingly "dropped off", become unattended to or oft forgotten! :( No worries, though, as there are so many blogs out there. I found a new challenge site that looks like a lot of fun! The Friday Mashup offers 2-in-1 challenges, you can do one, the other or both together. This week you can do a handmade flower or use red, black and turquoise. I chose to mash it up! I made paper buttons in flower shapes (hope that counts!) and used the colors, too.

Supplies:
Stamp Sets: Bliss, A Word for You (inside I used: congratulations on finding each other)
Ink: VersaMark; inside: Cherry Cobbler and Pool Party
Paper: Cherry Cobbler, Basic Black, Pool Party
Tools: Black embossing powder, heat tool, Big Shot, Flower Garden EF, Beautiful Wings Embosslit, Fancy Flower punch, Large Scallop Circle punch, Boho Blossoms punch
Embellishments: Chantilly, crochet thread
