Bring on the Cake 1

Hello! I am sharing with you a set of cards I made using, primarily, the set Bring on the Cake. I used all but the stamp with "a gift for you" - the ones you don't see pictured I used on the inside of the cards. But I also ever used the same stamp twice for this set. I made feminine, masculine, and teen-appropriate cards. I used only one other stamp set, and only because I did not have appropriate DSP (in effect, I made my own!). I want to show how much variety you can get using some of the same things. In addition to limiting my stamp set use, I also limited my color use. You'll see a lot of Whisper White, Crumb Cake, Marina Mist and Wild Wasabi. Mainly I used Regals, Subtles and a few In Colors. Also, you will see repeated use of the Stipes Embossing Folder, the Ovals die, the Extra Large Oval punch and Basic Rhinestones.

Below is one card, in the post below are the other five cards.

Here I used Fabulous Florets to create the illusion of DSP. This fold was taught to me by my upline. 1 inch in from each side, starting 1 inch from the top cut down 5.5 inches (meaning your blade will start at 1 in and end at 6.5 in). The score just on those 1 inch sides - at 1 in, 2 in, and at 6.5 in; then score the middle section at 5.5 in.
Wisteria Wonder, Whisper White, Wild Wasabi, Elegant Eggplant
Extra Large Oval punch, Ovals die, Basic Rhinestones, Designer Buttons Regals Elegant Eggplant, 1/8" Whisper White Taffeta ribbon

Bring on the Cake 2

The other five cards are rather straightforward.

Marina Mist, Cherry Cobbler, Confetti White, Elegant Eggplant, Lucky Limeade
Paper Piercer, Big Shot, Top Note die, Butterfly punch, Basic Rhinestones

Please refer to the post below this one for this card, as the color scheme came from a ColorQ challenge.

Marina Mist, Cajun Craze, Wild Wasabi; Black StazOn
Big Shot, Stripes EF, Square Lattice EF, Hemp Twine, Corner Rounder punch, Silver Brads

The flames are actually leaves from Little Leaves Sizzlit, snipped off and trimmed a bit. I thought the varying sizes seemed more realistic.
Crumb Cake, Marina Mist, Daffodil Delight, Whisper White, Early Espresso
Baker's Twine Early Espresso, Designer Buttons Regals Night of Navy, Big Shot, Stripes EF, Ovals die, Log Cabin Smooch Spritz, sponging

Rose Red, Blushing Bride, Crumb Cake, Whisper White (although Very Vanilla would match the ribbon better)
Blossom Bouquet Triple Layer punch, 1 3/4" Circle punch, Large Scallop Circle punch, Big Shot, Stripes EF, Glimmer Brad Neutrals, 1 1/4" Striped Grosgrain Soft Suede, Dazzling Details

----------
I hope this inspires you to pick up a stamp set and find out just how versatile it can be! For my customers, I am planning to to a "Birthday Bonanza" class this fall. I'll charge a flat fee, have the supplies ready for you and you can come make these 6 cards!

This is my card for the ColorQ challenge this week. Somewhat inspired by the sample in the SAB mini (rainbow picture). This card would be great for a tween girl.

Supplies:
Stamp Set: So Happy for You
Ink: Rich Razzleberry, Marina Mist, Pear Pizzazz, Pacific Point (flower centers and sponged edges)
Paper: Pear Pizazz, Whisper White, Rich Razzleberry, Whisper White
Tools: Small (1 3/4") Scallop circle punch, 1 3/8" Circle punch, 1 1/4" Circle punch, Small Heart punch, sponge
Embellishments: Basic Rhinestones

P.S.- this is why I love Clear Mount sets from SU! I used a 4 in. wide block, plenty of room to line up these three images. I inked them with markers and voila! 3 separate stamps become one!

November 30, 2010

Well, I bid farewell to November and say hello to December with a few Christmas cards I made last week but didn't have time to post. These cards will be for sale at a "Handmade" Open House this Friday!

This first one uses a retired set, it was a Hostess Set in last year's mini catalog (I'm pretty sure). This was very easy, but looks SO pretty with the Iridescent Ice!

Supplies:
Stamp Set: Printed Pines
Ink: VersaMark, Old Olive, Cherry Cobbler
Paper: Cherry Cobbler, Crumb Cake
Tools: Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, Big Shot, Top Note die, Petals-A-Plenty Embossing Folder
Embellishments: 3/8" Old Olive Taffeta ribbon, Basic Pearls

----------
This card is copied from a sample I received in a card swap. She had used Bravo Burgundy card stock for the card base, Very Vanilla for the Top Note; then stamped the block stamp in Bravo Burgundy ink and hand cut the tree stamped in Bravo Burgundy ink on Bravo Burgundy card stock. Nice, if you want monochromatic. I, however, wanted a little more interest. I spiced it up with more color and added rhinestones!

Supplies:
Stamp Set: Season of Joy
Ink: Old Olive, Early Espresso, Daffodil Delight, Cherry Cobbler, Crumb Cake
Paper: Cherry Cobbler, Whisper White
Tools: Big Shot, Top Note die, 3/4" Circle punch
Embellishments: Basic Rhinestones, 5/8" Old Olive Grosgrain ribbon

----------
And, lastly, I had to try the Paper Tree technique. I first saw this on Connie Babbert's blog. Follow the link, she had a PDF with a template to download. It takes a bit of trial and error (at least it did for me!) and I think I will do a smaller circle next time. But it is certainly fun and looks great!

Supplies:
Stamp Set: Come to Bethlehem
Ink: Cherry Cobbler, Old Olive (sponged)
Paper: Old Olive, Cherry Cobbler, Whisper White, retired Old Olive DSP
Tools: Circle Scissor Plus, Big Shot, Petals-A-Plenty Embossing Folder, label from Matchbox die
Embellishments: Basic Rhinestones

November 5, 2010

I snuck in one more card before bed last night, totaling 4 cards made yesterday. Then I made 4 another cards today at my still-new-to-me desk!!! They are super cute! BUT I decided to just pick 2 to show you. Tough choice... I'll probably end up coming back another time to post the others. :)

First is a rainbow of butterflies! I envisioned them in a straight line across the card, but this butterfly is too big for that. And I felt the other butterflies in the Beautiful Wings embosslit were too small. But I might go back and try it with the next size down sometime.

Supplies:
Stamp Set: Apple Blossoms
Ink: Early Espresso, Pacific Point, Tangerine Tango
Paper: Sahara Sand, Whisper White, Poppy Parade, Tangerine Tango, Daffodil Delight, Garden Green, Pacific Point, Concord Crush
Tools: Big Shot, Beautiful Wings Embosslit, dimensionals
Embellishments: Basic Rhinestones

----------
Next, I used a favorite color combo of mine: Cameo Coral, Baja Breeze and Not Quite Navy. This is one of the main reasons why it is unfortunate that Cameo Coral was retired! But I still have nearly a whole pack of Cameo Coral card stock to wean me off of this combo. LOL :)

Supplies:
Stamp Set: Well Scripted
Ink: Baja Breeze, Not Quite Navy
Paper: Sahara Sand, Cameo Coral, Baja Breeze, Not Quite Navy, Whisper White
Tools: Big Shot, Perfect Polka Dots EF, 1 3/4" Circle Punch, 2 3/8" Scallop Circle punch, Boho Blossoms punchs, dimensionals
Embellishments: Pewter Brads

November 4, 2010 Challenge 1

I have a new and improved "stamping station"!! I'll post a picture later... But I had to break it in today! I went to my usual challenge sites where I found 2 color challenges and a sketch challenge. So, I got to work.

This is the first card I made. This is the color challenge from Stamping 411 this week. I added the black, but it's a neutral which usually doesn't really count. :) The picture that provided the source of the color combo includes black, as well as a light purple color, so I figured I was safe adding it in. I pretty much just took my inspiration straight from that picture. A "teen" bedspread with a circle pattern. This card, obviously, has a circle pattern and it's fitting for a teenaged girl. I had to make one modification to the color challenge: I don't have Pear Pizzazz ink, so I substituted with Certainly Celery.

Supplies:
Stamp Sets: Perfect Punches, Circle Circus, Simple Shapes
Ink: Certainly Celery, Tempting Turquoise, Melon Mambo, Basic Black
Paper: Certainly Celery, Basic Black, Whisper White, Melon Mambo
Tools: Double Scallop Ribbon Border punch, Wide Oval punch
Embellishments: 1/4" Certainly Celery Grosgrain ribbon, Basic Rhinestones, Designer Buttons Brights Tempting Turquoise

October 21, 2010

Last night I went to the Stamping 411 site and was glad to find this Color Challenge: Pacific Point, Pumpkin Pie and Melon Mambo. Since I've been working on 4o cards in bright colors, I'm always happy for inspiration. These are certainly bright colors! :)

Supplies:
Stamp Sets: Circle Circus, Rough Type
Ink: Melon Mambo, Pacific Point, Pumpkin Pie
Paper: Pacific Point, Whisper White
Tools: 1/2" and 3/4" Circle punches, Sticky Strip (I used a small piece to overlap the ribbon just a bit - that's the spot where I cinched it with the thread and button; then I put a small piece on the back of each circle to stick them to the ribbon)
Embellishments: Pumpkin Pie Striped Grosgrain ribbon (retired), Designer Buttons Brights Pumpkin Pie, crochet thread

Supplies:
Stamp Sets: Circle Circus, Thank You Kindly
Ink: Melon Mambo, Pumpkin Pie, Pacific Point, VersaMark
Paper: Crumb Cake, Whisper White
Tools: Heat Tool, White Embossing Powder, sponge, 1 3/8" 1 3/4" Circle punches
Embellishments: Basic Rhinestones, Pumpkin Pie Striped Grosgrain ribbon (retired)

October 6, 2010

I'm back into the blog challenges this week!!! AND having more fun with rhinestones! This is one more card for the 2 packs I'm putting together or a friend to give as Christmas gifts. She wants cards with bright colors for the recipients. :)

This card is for 2 challenges. (I usually try not to combine, but I wasn't really getting anywhere with them individually!) The color scheme comes from the Stampin' Royalty Color Challenge for the week. Except I wanted my card to be a little brighter, so instead of So Saffron, I used Daffodil Delight. The layout is from this weeks Diva Coffee Break Designs Sketch Challenge, but I did flip the sketch.

Supplies:
Stamp Set: Garden Greetings
Ink: Chocolate Chip, Daffodil Delight, Tempting Turquoise
Paper: Concord Crush, Daffodil Delight, Whisper White, Tempting Turquoise
Tools: 1", 1 1/4" & 1 3/8" Circle punches, dimensional
Embellishments: Basic Rhinestones

October 3, 2010

I made this card a few weeks ago, but I didn't have the rhinestones at the time. I looked at my finished product, but thought it was missing something. I finally got rhinestones and they were just what this card needed! I love SU!s Jewel Accents - a sheet of pearls or rhinestones with adhesive backing (no messy glue, no glue dots that are too big). Just peel 'em and stick 'em!

Supplies:
Stamp Set: For All You Do
Ink: Daffodil Delight, Perfect Plum, Rose Red, Tangerine Tango
Paper: Daffodil Delight, Whisper White, Rose Red, Tangerine Tango, Perfect Plum
Tools: 1" & 1 1/4" Circle punches, sponge (on Whisper White background)
Embellishments: Basic Rhinestones
